Other ways to give

A card is the fastest way to give, not always the best one. These take a little more arranging and several of them cost you less than writing a check for the same amount.

Ask your employer to match

Thousands of companies match what their employees give, often dollar for dollar, and most people never find out. It takes a few minutes and it can double what your gift does.

We ask where you work as part of giving, and follow up by email so you can confirm whether they match. If you already gave and skipped that question, contact us and we will look your employer up with you.

Appreciated stock or mutual funds

If you have held a security more than a year and it is worth more than you paid, giving the shares themselves usually beats selling them first.

Selling triggers capital gains tax and you donate what is left. Transferring the shares directly means pcH receives the full value, and you may deduct the full fair market value. Ask your tax advisor how it applies to your return. This is not tax advice.

Our brokerage details are being finalized. We will send you the transfer instructions, along with a letter your broker can act on. Contact us.

Tell us the security and the number of shares when you initiate the transfer. Shares arrive without a name attached, and without that note we cannot send you a receipt.

Recommend a grant from your donor-advised fund

If you have a fund at Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, Vanguard Charitable, or a community foundation, the money is already set aside for charity. It only needs a destination.

Recommend the grant to Productive Cooperatives for Haiti Inc., EIN 41-2919506, through your donor-advised fund. You have already taken the deduction, so no new receipt is due. We send an acknowledgment anyway, because it is the only way you learn the grant arrived.

A grant cannot be used to pay for anything you receive in return.

From an IRA, if you are 70½ or older

A qualified charitable distribution goes straight from your IRA to pcH and is excluded from your taxable income, whether or not you itemize.

It can also count toward a required minimum distribution. Your IRA custodian sends the funds; ask them to include your name, because most custodians send a check with no indication of who it came from. Your advisor can tell you the current annual limit.

By check

Slower, and completely fine. A check avoids processing fees entirely.

Make it payable to Productive Cooperatives for Haiti Inc. and mail it to 601 21st Street, Suite 300, Vero Beach, FL 32960. Add a note if the gift is for a particular campaign or in someone’s name, and include your email so the receipt reaches you the same week.

In your will

A bequest costs nothing during your lifetime and is the single largest gift most people ever make.

Your attorney will want the exact wording: “I give to Productive Cooperatives for Haiti Inc., a nonprofit corporation organized under the laws of Florida, EIN 41-2919506, …” The same details work for naming pcH as a beneficiary of a retirement account or life insurance policy, which is often simpler than changing a will.

Not sure which one fits?

Tell us roughly what you have in mind and we will tell you the simplest way to do it, including when the simplest way is a card.

For planned giving, write to info@pch-usa.org.

Leave your address and we will write when there is something worth your time.

We send a confirmation link first, and you can unsubscribe in one click from any message. Giving is never required.

Nothing on this page is tax or legal advice. Productive Cooperatives for Haiti Inc. cannot advise you on your own return. Talk to your tax advisor or attorney before making a gift of securities, a distribution from a retirement account, or a bequest.
